Automation on thermal control of blast furnace

Accurate process control through automation is the key to achieving efficient and stable operation of a blast furnace. In this study, we developed an automatic system hot metal temperature (HMT). To cope with slow complex dynamics furnace, constructed algorithm that predicts eight-hour-ahead HMT using two-dimensional (2D) transient model calculates optimal target pulverized coal ratio (PCR) flow rate by non-linear predictive (NMPC). An evaluation in real plant showed suppressed effects disturbances, such as changes coke volume, on HMT. The root mean square (RMS) deviation was successfully reduced 1.6 °C compared conventional manual operation.
